Senate Western Caucus

The Senate Western Caucus is a group of Senators from Western and rural states who are committed to upholding the fundamental principles of the West. 

Promoting the Western Way: self-reliance, local decision-making, love of the land and the pioneer spirit. The Senate Western Caucus, led by Senator Cynthia Lummis, focuses on key areas for Western states: economic development, natural resources, energy independence and smart public land management.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Rural Broadband: Encourage broadband development to enhance economicgrowth in the West.

Rural Air Service: Advocate for affordable and reliable rural air service.

Rural Health: Promote policies that recognize the challenges of rural healthcare.

Indian Affairs/Reservation Reform: Support legislation for autonomy and economic development on Indian reservations.

Support Agriculture Producers: Protect grazing rights, resist environmental

attacks on agriculture practices, and promote American trade exports for small farmers.

Promote Outdoor Recreation: Advocate for policies that boost travel, tourism, and recreation economies in Western
states.

Advocating for Sportsmen Issues: Support policies that defend hunting and protect wildlife.

 

CHAMPIONING OUR NATURAL RESOURCES & SECURING ENERGY INDEPENDENCE

Energy: Promote an all-of-the-above energy mix that prioritizes innovation while defending reliable, affordable, traditional forms of energy.

Mining and Critical Minerals: Support legislation that recognizes the need for domestic and critical mineral development for both national and economic security.

Permitting Reform: Expand permitting reforms for infrastructure and energy development.

 

ENSURING SMART PUBLIC LAND MANAGEMENT

Healthy Forests: Promote legislation to mitigate wildfire risk on 63 million acres of National Forest System and 54 million acres of DOI lands, while bolstering the domestic forestry industry.

Wildlife/Endangered Species Act: Introduce sensible Endangered Species Act reforms.
