WEEKLY UPDATE ON WESTERN CAUCUS MEMBERS TAKING ACTION FOR RURAL AMERICA

FARM BILL HIGHLIGHTS FROM WESTERN CAUCUS MEMBERS

We have a huge Western Caucus victory to share!

On Wednesday, January 17th, Senate Western Caucus Chair Cynthia Lummis (WY) and Congressional Western Caucus Chairman Dan Newhouse (WA-04) sent a letter to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) raising concerns about a proposal from the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) that would allow listings from Natural Asset Companies.

This would raise the price of land and restrict many western industries. There would be serious potential for extremist environmentalists to limit multiple-use public land.

After their letter was sent, the NYSE proposal was withdrawn.

Chairman Newhouse celebrates in saying “Today’s news is a huge victory for rural America and our public lands.”

Protecting multiple-use public lands protects the western way of life as land is shared for natural resource acquisition, recreation, farming, and more. Western citizens know what is best for their land, and keeping it off the NYSE is a great win for everyday Americans who rely on land for work and enjoyment.

CHINESE OWNERSHIP OF U.S. FARMLAND

The Western Caucus has responded to the latest U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) report. The report threw a flag on foreign ownership of U.S. farmland, but admitted that they have not been able to identify the correct numbers.

Congressional Western Caucus Chairman Dan Newhouse (WA-04) issued this statement in response:

“This report confirms one of our worst fears: that not only is the USDA unable to answer the question of who owns what land and where, but that there is no plan by the department to internally reverse this dangerous flaw that affects our supply chain and economy. Food security is national security, and we cannot allow foreign adversaries to influence our food supply while we stick our heads in the sand.”

The Western Caucus is committed to making progress on finding these deserved and vital answers to minimize foreign influence and secure our homeland.
